FOUNDERS OF TIGBAUAN ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA
HOW DID WE COME ABOUT ?
Nov. 14, 1987
When father Eleuterio Carton, parish priest of tigbauan, came to Los Angeles, California in November 1987, he asked Larry Tueres to contact some tigbauenos in order to
raise funds for the tigbauan church. Although new-comers
in Los Angeles, having moved from Chicago, Illinois, Larry
and Chita were able to contact some townfolks to gather
at their residence in Thousnd Oaks, California. It was in this
meeting that the formation of Tigbauan Association of
California was conceived.
Those who attended were just a handful, but they were
never so few in their resolve to organize an association of
Tigbauenos in California. Inspired by this commitment, the
members took turns to hold a series of parties, once again
at Larry's residence in Thousand Oaks; next at Luis Teruel
Gonzales' in Oxnard, California; and  at Marilou Sia Yap's
house in Norwalk, California.
These parties provided the golden opportunity to hold
meetings about the association in an atmosphere of good
fellowship and harmony. Another of these parties was the one held on January 17, 1988 held at Junior Trofeo's residence in La Puente, California. The occasion was the celebration of the town fiesta in honor of the miraculos
Santo Nino.
It was providential that during this occasion, the Tigbauan
Association of California was formally launched. Proclaimed officers were Fermin Trofeo Jr., Prsident, Larry
Tueres, Vice President, Marilou Sia Yap, Secretary-Treasurer, and Chita Tenefrancia Tueres, Auditor. They will
be inducted to the office during an induction ceremony to
be held on May 29, 1988 at the Sheraton Hotel in the City
of Industry, California.
It is about time that an association of Tigbauenos is formed
abroad. There is a growing number of Tigbauenos in the
United States, Canada and Europe. If each one will join, the
Tigbauenos can form a potent group not only in California
but all over the world. It is the objective of the Tigbauan Association of California to undertake socio-civic projects
for the good of our town and to pursue these activities on
a grander scale under the aegis of the Tigbauan Circulo
International.
